DENNY SHARP
Denny was our president from 2004-2022 and is now enjoying retirement… with a side of architecture. He is a kind mentor, master rendering artist, and a humble leader. Denny recognizes each team member’s unique talents and encourages us to reimagine the built environment.
How did you decide on your career path?
When I was in junior high I took a mechanical drawing class. My teacher liked my drawings and suggested I look into architecture. Well, I didn’t know what an architect is or does. So I broke out the handy Encyclopedia Britannica and did a little reading. Wow, this sounded pretty interesting, and I was thinking that I could actually get paid to draw! So I decided to go for it and started taking all the drawing classes I could get. Then went on to Iowa State University and drew some more. Then you know what happened? I got a job that paid me to draw!
What is your favorite part of the design process?
I enjoy interacting with clients during the exploration of design ideas and options, especially at Spark Sessions.
How are you creating vibrant communities through design?
Over my career I have been involved in a wide range of project types that have impacted communities all over the Midwest. Through design, these communities become better, more interesting, and more inspiring!
