Western Iowa Networks

Carroll, Iowa

Western Iowa Networks (WIN) is one of western Iowa’s largest independent telephone companies, providing telephone, internet, cellular, cable TV, and fiber optics. This new facility is a new hub for their Technical and Services Operation. It includes a training center, in addition to sales and customer service spaces for WIN and U.S. Cellular.

  • The incorporation of modern building materials and design elements have been my favorite parts of the project. It was a very successful collaborative effort with the client throughout the design process. Western Iowa Networks truly cares about creating a facility that will serve their company and employees into the future, be an asset to the Carroll community, and the communities they serve.

  • A unique part of the project is that we hid a tornado shelter within the main shell of the building. There is a room that has been hardened to withstand tornado forces and is structurally independent from the rest of the building structure. The space is effectively a structure within a structure and is designed to stand even if the outer structure collapses on top of it.

  • We were inspired to select colors and finishes that were modern and timelessly neutral, to support the US Cellular and Western Iowa Network branding colors. Natural materials, such as the warm wood tones and stone accents used on the exterior facades were brought into the interior architecture to enliven and enrich the spaces as well.
