Q&A with Interior Designer Ashley

How did you decide on your career path?

I’ve known since high school that I wanted to do something to express my creativity and put my own spin on being an artist. I knew interior design was a career I could enjoy for a lifetime, and I haven’t been wrong so far. It really is my dream job!

What is your favorite part of the design process?

I love meeting with clients to share our vision and taking cues from their reactions to guide the design process. One of my favorite parts is showing them our 3D renderings and explaining why we chose the finishings we did. Seeing them excited makes me so happy that we can create something together.

How are you creating vibrant communities through design?

I think bringing people together is one of the most important aspects of design. Designing the REMAX City Centre is a great example of how design can transform a building into a place where people want to gather. For this project, we used different materials, graphics and lighting for multiple spaces that each had its own vibe and function – but also gave the entire space a cohesive feel. Designing with flexibility in mind is key to bringing people together!

What makes Siouxland a great place to live?

Growing up in Siouxland and now raising my family here, I’ve always felt like it’s a good mix of small-town easy living mixed with all the amenities I want and need. Whether it’s business or personal life, everyone helps each other. We are all kind of like a big family in a small town, and I love that!

Q: What value can interior designers bring to my business?
A: We can help you visualize your space with functionality in mind, while bringing your vibe and style to life. Your brand is important, so we work closely with our in-house graphic design team to design spaces that are unique to your business. The FEH Design team also has access to thousands of different manufacturers that carry everything from traditional to hot new products and finishes. We can even get deals on products for you! – Ashley

Q: What are some of the biggest trends in interior design right now?
A: Color! For a while neutrals were the trend, but now we are seeing vibrancy being brought back in. Rich and bold textures and finishes with earthy tones are also trending. Culture is a big trend in interior design. Clients who have a vibrant brand and company culture you see that reflected in their spaces. – Holly

Q: Can I update my space on a small budget?
A: Absolutely! Consider starting with paint. Changing wall colors with a fresh coat of paint can really modernize a space. Pair with an accent or graphic wallcovering to instantly add texture and dimension. Next, we recommend hardware and lighting. Changing cabinet hardware, doorknobs, plumbing fixtures, or replacing light fixtures with LED bulbs are budget friendly ways to brighten and modernize your space. Do you have any graphics and signage? These are great pieces to show off your brand and bring style into your space. – Ashley

Q: What are some misconceptions about your line of work?
A: We love to decorate and select furniture pieces, but we also do so much more! Registered interior designers design entire interior spaces including floors, ceilings, walls, and built-in elements, while keeping in mind building codes, ADA accessibility, and sustainability. – Holly
