The closing of a K-Mart store in the Plaza 20 Shopping Center had the owners looking for innovative ways to reuse the building. Meanwhile, Dubuque’s Veterans Clinic was undersized, not easy to access, and did not provide all the necessary services needed. Vets were traveling to Iowa City to receive the majority of their care. FEH Design and Plaza 20 came together to propose a solution that provided the VA Clinic with the much-needed space and the shopping center with a rebranded section of the once empty big box store.
The clinic includes 14 patient rooms, radiology, mental health, physical therapy, and other outpatient medical spaces.
