Q&A with Intern Architect Nathan

How did you decide on your career path?

I have always had an interest in buildings. Throughout my childhood I would draw and construct with toys. I was always asking questions about how things were made and why. It led to a deep love for historic structures and design.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

I actually like the difficult or problematic spaces within a design. So, whether it’s schematic or design development, finding solutions that make tricky spaces work and look nice is so enjoyable and satisfying.

How are you creating vibrant communities through design?

I love collaborating with people both within the company and those in the communities we support. When a project involves community outreach I thrive. I enjoy it so much when I can hear the thoughts and ideas of community members and then help them to see those ideas realized into built environments.

What makes Dubuque a great place to live?

Growing up in Dubuque helped to shape my interest in historic buildings. The city is filled with unique and significant structures that spark creativity and showcase a vibrant community history. No matter where I go or how long I stay, I feel at home when I return to Dubuque.
