Q&A with Intern Architect Julio

How did you decide on your career path?

My father designed and built a home in Mexico in the late 80s. He, along with family, friends and travel experiences, inspired me to pursue a career in architecture.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

Schematic design! I enjoy exploring design options with clients.

How are you creating vibrant communities through design?

I volunteer at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Iowa Northwest Section. This group provides many resources and design trends for architects to learn and share with others. The AIA also hosts large events that bring all related professions to collaborate together.

Where is your favorite place to visit in the Midwest?

I love being outdoors. I’m inspired by RAGBRAI, when thousands of cyclists arrive on the west border and ride across Iowa in 7 days.
