JON PURVIS

As a communication coordinator, Jon takes pride in finding the right words for the job. He is an avid music lover, reader, and dog dad to the sweetest pooch, Relic. Outside of the office, you can generally find him behind a drum kit.

How did you decide on your career path?

When I started college, I hoped that radio was a viable option for my career path since I loved music and communicating. I quickly learned that was not the case—but I was certainly sticking with communication. I spent my undergraduate time learning ways to communicate with different audiences. Just like music, communication allows me to connect with others in varying situations.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

I love that special moment when you see the path that led to the right solution. I may have hundreds of ideas throughout the entire process but knowing that they all will all cumulate to something in the end excites me.

How are you creating vibrant communities through design?

When I started my record label—Beef Steam Records, I knew that I wanted to help local artists get the most out of their project. Being able to design creatively helped me show artists how they can achieve their goals without breaking their budget.

Where is your favorite place to visit in the Midwest?

Codfish Hollow – Music venue in Maquoketa, IA, that is a old crop duster barn. I have seen dozens of bands at this venue including The Zombies, Dawes, Nathaniel Rateliff, Kevin Smith (doing stand-up), and so many more. Be sure to check out my favorite music venue if you’re in the area.
