NOAH SCHULTE
Noah’s ready to hit the ground running after graduating from Iowa State University. He’s always looking for an innovative new design idea… or one of his cats.
How did you decide on your career path?
It all started in high school; I liked learning new programs and being creative within those programs. I loved art, as well as math and science. I took a Chief Architect course where I realized I like designing buildings and laying them out. From there, I followed this career path and started at Iowa State University in 2017.
What is your favorite part of the design process?
My favorite part of the process is probably schematic design. I like exploring all the different possibilities for a space or building.
Where is your favorite place to visit in the Midwest?
The High Trestle Trail Bridge over the Des Moines River Valley is pretty amazing, especially to see at night. I have many cozy memories there.

Advice from Intern Architect, Noah Schulte
If you’re in high school and considering a career in architecture, here are some pointers from someone who’s been there.
👉 Make the Most of College
College is a great place to discover new things and to start growing your network. The people you meet could open doors for years to come!
👉Stay Open and Curious
Keep an open mind. Try new things. Take in as much as you can—you never know what might inspire your future work.
👉Don’t Stress Too Much
Some classes may feel slow or repetitive—use that time to solidify your skills and get ahead on studio work. Others might feel too fast—try to understand the overall topic and how you can apply it to studio and real-world design.
👉Prioritize What Matters
College can feel like a game of tug-of-war. There’s always more you could do. Be smart with your time and energy—and remember, tuition isn’t cheap. Make it count.
👉Know the Difference: School vs. Work
Architecture school teaches design concepts, but work experience teaches you how to apply them. You will learn a lot in the field and should be looking to get as much experience as possible!
👉Understand the Licensure Path
After graduation, you’ll work toward licensure through AXP hours and six exams. Start tracking your hours early— internships or construction experiences count!
