JENAE JONES

Starting as our college intern, Jenae is now a proud Iowa State grad bringing fresh perspective and energy to the team. She’s passionate about inclusive design and loves exploring big ideas. Jenae spends her downtime baking, crafting, and hanging out with her spirited pup, Rio.

How did you decide on your career path?

Growing up, I always gravitated towards the arts, and eventually it dawned on me that architecture would be my dream job. I wasn’t a girl who dreamed of being a princess; I wanted to stand out and be different, to conquer things outside the norm. 

What is your favorite part of the design process?

I find the whole design process rewarding. There truly aren’t any wrong answers when it comes to design. I love the way design forces you to ideate and collaborate with others. Design doesn’t have limitations and the possibilities are endless.

How are you creating vibrant communities through design?

I am constantly reading and keeping up-to-date with local and federal news articles. I focus on creating spaces that are inclusive, engaging, and enhancing. Design can be more than the walls around you; design can foster these connections and experiences.

What makes Des Moines a great place to live?

Des Moines definitely has its charm and character. Every morning, the one thing I look forward to is the morning view of the Capital while driving into work. Des Moines’ character is what sets this metropolis apart from any others. The lively streets and connection amongst communities are strong and represented proudly. One reason I’ve never left Des Moines is the people. People care and graciously treat everyone, truly, with that ‘Midwest respect.’
