Q&A with Designer Sarah

How did you decide on your career path?

I originally started in the architecture program at Iowa State but ended up transferring to a small art school in Minneapolis and getting my degree in graphic design. My aunt was an Art Director at a clothing company in San Francisco, so I knew all the possibilities of graphic design, and it was a good fit for me!

What is your favorite part of the design process?

I love the concept phase when all options are before you, and you get to decide what will work best for the client and what they are trying to achieve. Seeing the finished product and knowing you accomplished your goals is always great too!

What makes Des Moines a great place to live?

I grew up in Des Moines, and after living in Minneapolis for 15 years, we moved back to raise our family here. It has such a great mix of small town and big city – without the hassle of traffic. It’s changed a lot since I was growing up, and it’s fun to explore all that’s new – the arts, restaurants, and community events.

Where is your favorite place to visit in the Midwest?

The historic Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Minnesota – I was married there!
