Q&A with Intern Architect Michael

How did you decide on your career path?

I remember telling people as far back as the fourth grade that I wanted to become an architect after I started designing homes on The Sims video game. In high school I took a drafting class and started looking at colleges with architecture programs. I landed at Iowa State and really enjoyed being able to show my creativity through design.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

Since starting at FEH, my favorite part of the design process would have to be the Spark Sessions. I like being able to quickly generate design ideas and share them with the public for feedback. That makes for an exciting next step, which is taking their feedback and developing a more detailed design.

What makes Dubuque a great place to live?

I’ve always enjoyed small-town Iowa, and working in Dubuque allows me to live near family.

Where is your favorite place to visit in the Midwest?

Every year my family vacations in Danbury Wisconsin. We rent a cabin on Devils Lake and spend most of our time fishing and enjoying all of the lakes in the area.
