This iconic domed gymnasium was constructed in the 1960s and needed a face-lift. The new wrestling center provides a free span center that fits 3 1/2 full size wrestling mats, support spaces and public restrooms. The gymnasium size and configuration are driven by the shape of the existing structure with two practice courts, batting and golf cages, a climbing wall, locker rooms concessions and storage. The slope of the site and circulation through the space was leveraged to provide a balcony viewing opportunity and the bonus of a few practice rooms and a classroom to support the adjacent music department. Environmental graphics were introduced that recognize the history of the program and promote pride and character for building users.
